October 23: 1921. The Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church was revived.

1990. Verkhovna Rada of the Ukrainian SSR ratified an amendment to the Constitution, canceling the Sixth Clause on the leading role of the Communist Party.

October 24: 1991. Verkhovna Rada approved the Declaration on Ukraine’s Non-Nuclear Status.

1993. Second Patriarch of Kyiv and All Ukraine Volodymyr (Vasyl Romaniuk) underwent investiture.

October 25: 1848. The Galician-Rus’ Matytsia cultural and educational organization was founded in Lviv.

1938. The First Congress of Ukrainian Artists began, founding the Artists’ Union of Ukraine.

October 26: 1939. The People’s Congress of Western Ukraine opened, proclaiming Soviet power in that territory, its entering the USSR, and reunification with the Ukrainian SSR.

1947. The mass deportation of around 78,000 Ukrainians in the post- war period began in Ukraine’s western oblasts.

October 27: 1882. The first performance of Mark Kropyvnytsky’s professional Ukrainian touring troupe was held in Yelyzavethrad.

1991. Ukraine and the Republic of Uzbekistan signed a treaty on the basics of their international relations.

October 28: 1944. Ukraine was cleared of Nazi troops.

1989. Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine ratified the law On the State Status of the Ukrainian Language.

October 29: 1800. The first blast furnace was put into action at the Luhansk Metallurgic Factory.

1918. Hetman Pavlo Skoropadsky sent an address to the Ukrainian people on the occasion of the first six months of existence of the Ukrainian state that he headed.
