June 13: 1920 . UNR Army retreats beyond the river Zbruch after the front is broken through by Semen Budiony’s 1st [Red] Cavalry Army.

1996. President Kuchma announces that all strategic nuclear weapons have been transferred from Ukraine to Russia.

June 14: 1569 . The Union of Lublin is signed, joining Ukrainian territories to Poland.

1996 . The President of Ukraine decrees the formation of the Oles Honchar All-Ukraine Fund for the Rejuvenation of Outstanding Monuments to Historical and Cultural Heritage.

June 15: 1918 . The first issue of the newspaper Komunist (currently Demokratychna Ukraina [Democratic Ukraine]) comes off the presses.

1940 . Red Army units enter Lithuania.

June 16: 1934 . The first writers’ convention is held in Kyiv to establish the Writers’ Union of Ukraine.

1990 . The Ukrainian People’s Democratic Party holds the constituent convention.

June 17: 1775 . Zaporizhian Sich is liquidated by Russian autocracy.
