November 2 1708. Russian troops commanded by Aleksandr Menshikov captured Baturyn, the Hetman’s capital and slaughtered its inhabitants.
1966. The USSR began the serial production of the Anteus (An-22), the world’s largest aircraft designed by Oleh Antonov.
November 3 1918. The Bookman People’s Assembly proclaimed the reunification of Northern Bookman with Ukraine.
1957. The USSR launched an artificial Earth satellite with dog Laika on board.

1953. The USSR’s first all-welded bridge over the Dnipro, designed by Academician Yevhen Paton, was commissioned.
November 6 1943. Soviet troops took Kyiv from the Germans.

November 7 1917. The Ukrainian Central Rada published its Third Universal proclaiming the establishment of the Ukrainian People’s Republic (UNR).
1922. The T. H. Shevchenko State Ukrainian Drama Theater was opened in Kharkiv.
October 8 1863. The Kyiv branch of the Russian Musical Society was opened.
1867. A stationary opera house was established in Kyiv (now the Taras Shevchenko National Opera of Ukraine).
