June 16, 1578: In Lviv Cossack leader Ivan Pidkova, who fought against the Turks, is executed. 1934: The First Congress of Writers of Ukraine, which would create the Ukrainian Writer’s Union, opens in Kyiv. June 17, World Day Against Desertification and Drought. 1993: The Moscow Treaty on dividing the Black Sea Fleet between Russia and Ukraine is signed. June 18, 1939: The Taras Shevchenko Memorial Complex and Museum opens in Kaniv. 1996: Ukraine is accepted into the International Disarmament Conference. June 19, 1996: The Ukraine-Kyrgyzstan Treaty on Friendship and Cooperation is signed. June 20, 1918: The All Ukrainian Church Council opens in Kyiv. 1919: A Ukrainian delegation headed by General Delvyh signed a provisional armistice with the Poles in Lviv.
