General Oleksandr Chapovsky, recently promoted from Deputy Commander of Rivne Army Corps to Commander of the National Guard of Ukraine, is determined to hold the reins in an iron grip.
Despite his promise not to follow the new broom routine in the National Guard, two of his deputies are already reported packing. There is every indication that this will not be the end of it. Several field grade officers are also in the mood to get out following General Chapovsky's inspection tour of Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Donetsk, when he showed a no-nonsense stance traditionally ascribed to the Armored Troops Academy graduates.
A new star has risen in the military skies. Makes one wonder who needs it and why just now.
