Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty

WHY DO I READ THE DAY?

29 December, 1998 - 00:00

   Mykola KANISHEVSKY,
editor-in-chief, Vikna (Windows, ICTV news show):

Frankly, The Day is the first newspaper I read every morning.
Why? First of all because it is competent. I do not have to watch out for
any dirt. Instead, I expect and always find well balanced items dedicated
to various aspects of life in Ukraine. This newspaper broaches subjects
most other publications prefer to avoid. Yours is not a malicious policy.
The Day carries critical articles and every one is well justified,
containing certain outwardly trivial details which, considered as a whole,
help one build an accurate picture of today's realities. It may be a photo:
Ukraine listening about reforms with electricity cut off, having to do
with candles. It is like a masterful stroke of the brush adding more life
to the picture of global problems.

Also frankly, your Polling Service is the only well-balanced source
I can personally rely upon. Every reader bent on analysis can make very
far-reaching conclusions reading the percentage, without any commentary.

Your critical articles concerning television are quite penetrating,
although I personally favor television critic Ivanytsky in Nezavisimost.
Here, again, your professionalism is displayed to the best advantage.

Last but not least, I am very fond of your staff.
