In the words of Viktor Kalnyk, First Deputy Minister of
Economy, the costs of wheat and other grain cultures tend to grow on the
market and at auctions, attesting to «rather serious complications» in
keeping bread retail prices steady, reports Interfax Ukraine. Mr. Kalnyk
went on to say that, to prevent their increase by more than 7-8% all over
Ukraine, «serious work» must be carried out. Over the past 7 months the
average auction procurement cost per ton of third class wheat has averaged
UAH 227, rising to UAH 315- 350 of late.
Mr. Kalnyk also stated that, given the current cereal prices
and that of grain in reserve, «there are no grounds to expect any head-spinning
bread retail price increase.»
