A Year-Old Order

Last Wednesday Klara GUDZYK, a correspondent of Den/The Day, was awarded the Order of the Holy Great Martyr St. Barbara. Her fellow journalists at the Den/The Day congratulate their distinguished colleague on this recognition of her efforts. The award certificate, which states that the order was conferred “for achievements in the revival of spirituality in Ukraine and efforts to establish the Unified Ukrainian Orthodox Church,” is dated April 14, 2004. Explaining the time lag, Ms. Gudzyk said, “ I was probably on vacation when I was supposed to receive the order. Today (March 16 — Ed.), when I came to interview the Patriarch, he handed it to me. To my surprise, he said he had been waiting for me to come because he wanted personally to bestow the award on me.”

In 1997 the current prime minister of Ukraine, Yuliya Tymoshenko, was awarded the Order of the Holy Great Martyr St. Barbara (Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Kyiv Patriarchate).
