02 November, 00:00

In the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington famed American political scientist Zbigniew Brzezinski was awarded the prize of the Vasyl Symyrenko League of Ukrainian Philanthropists.

The prize created by the League of Ukrainian Philanthropists is dedicated to fostering the creativity of the Ukrainian idea and its good name in the world at large. Zbigniew Brzezinski is the first to be awarded it.

Petro Yatsyk, president of the League of Philanthropists, awarded the medal and diploma, saying that Mr. Brzezinski, who had great influence on American policy in 1977-81 when he was National Security Advisor, helped successfully end the Cold War and initiate cooperation. In addition, Mr. Brzezinski helped foster good relations between Poland and Ukraine.

Upon receiving the prize, Mr. Brzezinski as always emphasized the extraordinary importance independent Ukraine for both Europe and the world, the vital importance of Polish-Ukrainian dialog, and the need for Ukraine to realize its importance as a great European state.

Prof. Brzezinski donated the financial part of his prize ($5000) to Lviv University for training economists and managers. This was not by chance, for the renowned political scientist is an honorary citizen of Lviv, notes the press service of the League of Philanthropists.
