AVTOZAZ-DAEWOO TO COMPLETE CERTIFICATION PROCESS

The State Standardization and Certification center in Zaporizhzhia is planning to complete by May 12 the certification process of the assembly line at the AvtoZaz -Daewoo joint venture, according to Interfax-Ukraine. By the same date it is planned also to complete testing program for new South Korean cars, such as Lanos, Legansa, Nubira-Wagon, and Nubira-Sedan. The firm will put the assembly line into operation sometime in May. The first shipment will total 2,500 cars. It is planned to assemble over 30,000 South Korean cars by year’s end.

NEW STOCK STANDARDS FIXED

The State Standardization Committee has confirmed new state standards on stock papers, according to Interfax-Ukraine. The standards fix the sole structure for international stock identification indices, which will be used in the trading system and in managing securities. The standards also define the order of announcing about bond payoffs along with the regulations for forming and legalizing lists of paid-off bonds.

IMF LOOSENS FINANCIAL
REQUIREMENTS ON UKRAINE

The Ukrayinski Novyny news agency has reported that government sources now state the International Monetary Fund (IMF) has agreed to revise some clauses of the Memorandum on Cooperation that it signed with the Ukrainian Government, loosing IMF financial requirements on Ukraine.

The agency adds that the IMF has agreed to accept a UAH 1.6 billion Ukrainian budget deficit at the end of April. Last March, the budget deficit exceeded UAH 1.4 billion, while according to the Memorandum it was not to be over UAH 650 million. The IMF has also agreed to UAH 2 billion as a maximum for state arrears in social payments by the end of 1998, although according to the Memorandum this figure was not supposed to exceed UAH 1 billion.
