Special checkpoints were introduced in Ukraine on July 27 by government decision. A number of districts in Sumy, Luhansk, Chernivtsi oblasts along with Poliske and Chornobyl regions of Kyiv oblast, Sevastopol city and several Crimean districts, where a special regime is being introduced, will get these barriers.
"This measure will not affect Ukrainians," explained the head of frontier guards press-service Anatoly Samarchenko. "It is meant only for foreigners, who will have to have a permission to be in special border area."
Kyiv was forced to adopt such a decision in order to limit using Ukraine as a transit territory for illegal migration. According to Samarchenko, Ukraine's neighbors have introduced similar barriers on their territories. Last week over 132 people tried to cross the Ukrainian frontier illegally and were stopped by border guards.
