Boryspil to Test Runway

26 October, 00:00

Test flights are to begin on Kyiv Boryspil Airport's runway no. 1 later this month. As UNIAN was told at the Ministry of Transport, a flying- laboratory plane (An-26 or An-30) will land on the new runway as part of the tests. In addition, the specialized flights will be accompanied by tests of the lighting equipment.

The amount of investments required for this project is DM 190.35 million. As of today, the first phase of the project, financed by a DM 125 million Daimler-Benz Aerospace AG loan, has already been completed. On September 23, a DM 48.5 million credit agreement was signed between a banking consortium and Boryspil Airport in order to continue to fund the construction. It is planned to earmark DM 13.4 million from the Ukrainian state budget in 2000 to pay off the project's second-phase loans. Moreover, another DM 10 million is required to make tax-related and other budget payments. The airport reconstruction project provides for the construction of a runway in accordance with the ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) third category.
