Congressmen Discussing Terms for $225 Million Grant to Ukraine

17 February, 1998 - 00:00

When adopting the budget, US Congress may change its scheme for granting $225 million in aid to Ukraine. The Interfax-Ukraine News Agency learned that last week the Ukrainian delegation headed by Economy Minister Viktor Suslov discussed with the US Congress the possibility of obtaining the whole amount in the first half of 1998. According to Interfax-Ukraine, Congress is now discussing the possibility of giving these funds to Ukraine in two tranches, the first $125 million in the first half of the year and the remaining $110 million in the second, which may be linked to the acceleration of privatization in Ukraine.
