Gala Radio held a news conference on April 22, concerning projects being worked out in commemoration of the station’s fifth anniversary. Gala President Joseph Charles Lemire spoke, dwelling on the international standards to which the company aspires.

Bettering program quality, trips abroad by the station’s leading DJs Aliona Solniechna (Paris) and Serhiy (Mauritius), polling listeners for new pop stars to appear in the summer concert series - these and other efforts are being made to create new a “new feel” so that Gala listeners can feel tuned in to the world beyond Kyiv. The newest star might be the latest contest offering a trip into outer space as first prize. Astronomers recently reported the discovery of several new small stars, and Gala Radio applied for one to be named Gala.

When asked by The Day whether the Gala President was taking karate lessons and how could this particular hobby could have affected the outcome of a recent incident with local law enforcement authorities, Mr. Lemire produced a full-size Hollywood smile, saying, “Things have been straightened out with the Ukrainian government officials. No problems now.” His replies were as short and to the point in response to questions about US investment, joint ventures, and cost of time on the air: everything was being done in conformity with the law.
