GOVERNMENT BROKE AGREEMENT WITH MINERS Coal Industry Workers Trade Union (CIWTU) decided to renew All-Ukrainian protest action starting July 22

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

The Presidium of the Central Committee of the CIWTU during its last plenary session in Donetsk last Tuesday declared that the government had broken the agreement reached as a result of the latest miners' protest. It was declared at the session that as of July 20 the coal mines had received only 50 million hryvnias out of the promised 200 million.

Assurances by coal industry leadership that the rest of the money will be paid off by August 1 are not at all trusted by the miners' leadership, and the latter decided to renew their nationwide protest starting July 22. In a few days a working group will demand to meet with Prime Minister Pustovoitenko and the miners will begin picketing government structures in Kyiv and elsewhere in Ukraine on August 2.
