MOSCOW’S ARS SORTS THINGS OUT WITH KYIV’S IMPOSTORS. IS THIS THE END OF IT?

24 February, 1998 - 00:00

Moscow’s firm ARS, represented by Vice President Vladimir Dubovitsky, has dotted the i’s in the scandal surrounding use of its logo in Ukraine.

Mr. Dubovitsky called its use by the organizers of the recent «Hot Ten» gala show (Kyiv) as an absolutely unprecedented instance of outrageous arbitrariness and blatant copyright transgression, reports TITANIC. He further declared that the sole ARS representative in Ukraine is Ms. Valentyna Basovska, President of ARS-Ukraine, adding that Ihor Koshara, head of Kyiv’s firm Pik claiming ARS logo rights, had no contact with the legitimate entity in Moscow. In the scandal’s aftermath Dmitry Rybak, head of Moscow ARS concert division, has been fired, even though hospitalized with an infarct at the time. He together with business manager, Boris Krutoholov are accused of abuse of office, since neither of them had the right to support Ihor Kushara’s nonexistent ARS-Ukraine. Boris Krutoholov found himself suspended and tendered his resignation.

At a news conference organized by the lawful ARS spokesman it transpired that there are 26 firms registered in Kyiv, using the ARS logo, bringing Ukraine’s total to some 200. A variety of businesses, from recycling to street vending.
