Government binds enterprises to its own vendors
By Vitaly KNIAZHANSKY, The Day
"A considerable number of the 300 enterprises capable of paying and assigned
by the government to be served by Naftohaz Ukrayiny (Oil & Gas of Ukraine)
National Stock Company have declined to buy gas from our company," a source
in Naftohaz told The Day, inasmuch as they can buy it cheaper from
other traders.
To put an end to such insolence, the Cabinet of Ministers has approved
a new decision, which compels these enterprises to buy natural gas at auctions
or at prices not lower than the average price for gas at the preceding
auction, reports the Ukrayinski Novyny Agency.
Meanwhile, as state official in charge Vasyl Struk informed The Day,
the Anti-Monopoly Committee has opposed confirmation of the list of enterprises,
arguing this could lead to monopolization of the market. As we see, the
committee's argument has good reason. But as a rule, when the Cabinet hears
a complaints about Naftohaz, it goes in one ear and out the other.
