Part of South Ukrainian Nuclear Plant Falls

The frame of the reactor's upper unit fell and was partially damaged as a result of rope breakage, when being transported to the spent nuclear fuel storage pool at the South Ukrainian nuclear power plant. All fuel-reloading operations were halted in the third power unit reactor, which will remain under repair until October 21, reports UNIAN, quoting the information center of the State Nuclear Regulation Administration. The frame was recovered from the storage pool. The causes and results of the mishap are being established by a special station commission whose findings will serve as a basis for deciding whether to continue operation of the reactor, particularly those with nuclear fuel.
