Preliminary Declaration Introduced

The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine introduced preliminary declaration on a number of products imported into Ukraine. Their listing is fixed and changed by the State Customs Service due to the transportation type used to import the products, except railways. According to Interfax-Ukraine, the import of these products is only allowed when the preliminary customs declaration on them is presented by the subjects of entrepreneurial activity. According to SCS First Deputy Chairman Oleksandr Yehorov, the measure is caused by the fact that many products do not reach their destination customs after crossing the Ukrainian border. Of 733,000 shipments 12,000 did not reach their customs destination in 1997. According to him, most often “getting lost” are juices, furniture, clothes, and fertilizers.
