According to the Ukrainian News Agency, Deputy Minister of Industrial Policy Volodymyr Tereshchenko recommended enterprises slow down their increase of metallurgy production. According to him, the constant production increase under condition of limited sales might destabilize prices. He said prices on Ukrainian rolled metal decreased 10—15% compared to 1997. According to Ukrrudprom (Ukrainian Ore Industry), metallurgy plants owe their ore suppliers Hr 96 million, from which Hr 49 million should be paid off by Krivorozhstal (Kryvy Rih Steel) plant.
