Project to Complete Nuclear Reactors Passes Preliminary Oversight

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

The completion project for two nuclear reactors at the Khmelnytsky and Rivne power stations have passed the preliminary consideration by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The EBRD plans to grant $175 million for the project estimated to cost $1.6 billion. After the environment and nuclear safety research findings are made public, international public consultations will officially begin. This stage will last no less than 120 days.

However, not all view the project positively. According to the coordinator of the energy company International CEE Bankwatch Network Yuri Urbansky, essential nuclear safety measures may fail to be carried out on time due to too hasty construction of the units.
