SHELL TO EVALUATE UKRAINE’S GAS TRANSPORT INFRASTRUCTURE

24 February, 1998 - 00:00

The State Committee on the Oil, Gas and Oil Refining Industry of Ukraine and the joint stock company UkrHazProm signed a protocol on cooperation with the corporation Shell International Gas LTD, under which experts from these companies will evaluate the gas transport infrastructure of Ukraine within six months of signing the protocol.

Earlier corporation Shell offered US $2 billion to the Ukrainian Government so that it could buy 50% of the shares of the Ukrainian joint stock company UkrHazProm which controls the Ukrainian gas transport network. However, as Bohdan Klyuk, its Chairman of Board said, the sum offered is far too small. He estimates the assets of his JSC to be at least $20 billion.
