CHERNIVTSI-The Day’s photography show has just ended at the Chernivtsi Art Museum. Hundreds of visitors from all walks of life and social classes visited the exhibit, especially students from the city’s higher educational establishments. The visitors liked The Day’s photos, which evoked many emotions and opinions, and tucked them away in their memory. The fact that people wanted to see the photographs even after the show ended is the best proof of its popularity.

The visitors’ main recommendation was to change the system of selecting winners. Since the photos on display were thematically different, it was suggested that they should be divided according to theme, with the best one chosen from each group. Perhaps because visitors were so confused, three photos quickly rose to prominence, according to the results of the voting. The residents of Chernivtsi awarded first place to Borys Korpusenko’s “Life Goes On.” Burbovsky’s “Kiss” and Nesterenko’s “Hotttt,” with one point between them, took second and third place.

Fifty-eight out of the 86 works shown in Chernivtsi were nominated for first prize, and on some voting cards voters marked two and even three works. The most interest was evoked by humorous photos as well as socially-oriented works, where the well-aimed lens caught a moment of contemporary life the way it is, without posing.

The museum staffers have a different view of the photography show. They were not so much interested in photos with a specific subject as artistic ones. Their favorite was Ruslan Kaniuka’s “Mamaieva Sloboda, Kyiv.” The museum’s department of scholarly-educational work decided to award him a symbolic souvenir-prize. The museum has invited The Day to hold its photography exhibits in Chernivtsi every year, because people in this city are convinced that there will always be interest in them.
