UKRAINE RANKS 95TH IN LIVING STANDARDS

17 March, 1998 - 00:00

UNIAN reports that at the Consumer and Poverty Press Conference held in the Trade Union Building it was stated that in the last three years Ukraine has slipped from 45th place in terms of living standards to 95th, placing it squarely in the ranks of Third World countries. Since 1990 the population's buying power has dropped five times. The economic crisis is the main reason for this precipitous drop in living standards. Conference participants believe that only the revival of domestic producers can offer a way out of the crisis, reports The Day correspondent Romana Fedoseyeva.
