The Ukrainian People’s Auto of Korean Make

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

An assembly line of the AvtoZAZ-Daewoo Ukrainian-Korean joint venture was recently launched at a plant in Illichivsk, a small town near Odesa. The existing Kvant former defense plant was modernized and rebuilt to assemble up to 3000 cars monthly varying in price from $8,200 and $15,000 depending on model and options.

“The parts will be supplied from Varna, said plant director Borys Nasadiuk. Due to this, we will not have to pay import duties and other customs fees. 250 people are presently working on the assembly line. All received special training at a similar plant in Poland.”

A number of car dealers from Ukraine and CIS countries have already made a purchase on a few thousands of relatively cheap cars. Illichivsk assemblers think their cars will be able to compete successfully with the Russian Niva and other imports.
