UNIAN reports that the National Association of Sugar Producers reports that Russia may refuse to purchase 600,000 tons of Ukrainian sugar. Since the beginning of the year Russia has purchased over 3 million tons of the raw sugar. With 1.3-1.5 million tons of domestic sugar, this will cover all Russia’s needs. Experts say Ukrainian sugar is unneeded in Russia, because it may lead to a steep price drop. The refusal of Russian traders to purchase sugar and the decree issued by Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers on importing 300,000 tons of sugar may lead to a market glut and cause a steep price drop according to association experts.
