Hunger Drives People To Hospital Beds
"Over 60% of the patients is hospitals could be treated on an outpatient basis," said Valery Dmytriakov, Head of Zaporizhzhia oblast Health Care Department at a briefing. He is convinced that hospital beds have converted rather into social ones.
People are trying to get to a hospital to get fed. The only thing that Mr. Dmytriakov kept silent about was the fact that, according to the deputies of Zaporizhzhia city council data, only Hr 0.28 daily is allocated in the city budget to feed patients in the city hospitals.

The proportion of Ukrainian industrial enterprises using new technical equipment has declined constantly. According to the State Statistics Committee in 1998 11.9% of enterprises were using newly installed equipment, down from 17% in 1997 and 19.3% in 1996.
