BAD LUCK FOR MEDVEDIEV

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

This is definitely the bad year for Andriy Medvediev. He had hardly got back into shape, when he was struck by a disease, which kept him from properly training for the Mercedes Super 9 tournament in Hamburg. Three times he was successful in Hamburg, last year in particular. In the very first game he faced Alberto Costa of Spain, an expert at playing on a hardcore court. Medvediev lost the first game 3:6, but defeated the Spaniard 6:1 in the second. He also dominated the whole third game, but in the tie-breaker he ran out of steam, losing 3:7.

Also, slight changes took place in the world’s tennis rating. Pete Sampras rose to first position, because Marcello Rios was out for a few weeks due to an injury. However, Rios, third in the world after Peter Korda of the Czech Republic, will take part in the Hamburg tournament.
