“Entering the annals of history”
The Day presents a new series “Subversive Literature.” Premiere is to be held on September 13 at the Lviv Publishers Forum
For 11 years in a row The Day releases a new publication as a part of its Library Project and presents it at Lviv Publishers Forum. This year a new series “Subversive Literature” comes out in print. This is the series consisting of 15 “every day” books. Since the books are small in format, information contained in them is condensed (read – subversive). It aims at undermining stereotypes. Stereotypes of thinking and behavior.
“It seems that the infamous Berlin Wall (spiritual one) still exists, still stands – it simply was moved to our territories and here, in Ukraine, it separates the two worlds: the world of free actions and free thinking from the world of obsolete dogmas and slave stereotypes,” said The Day’s Editor-in-Chief Larysa Ivshyna, who was also the editor of the published series. “And if you remember that, in fact, the Berlin Wall had not been undermined by anyone, but instead was dismantled literally brick by brick by millions of people, who were willing to make the right moment. Then the ideological task for the democratic segment of the Ukrainian society can be formulated as follows: to blow ‘bunkers’ of outdated thinking, to set people’s thoughts free, and to be ready for the moment when we’ll get our chance to dismantle our ‘Berlin Wall’ in Ukraine (inside each one of us!)…”
The “subversive” collection features essays by Borys Hrinchenko, Taras Shevchenko (his diary and correspondence), Andrei Sheptytsky, Dmytro Dontsov, Symon Petliura, Mykhailo Hrushevsky, Stepan Bandera, Andrii Sakharov, Lina Kostenko, George Shevelov, Valerii Marchenko, James Mace… Each of them has an “introductory” chapter. The authors of the prefaces are Serhii Hrabovsky, Viacheslav Briukhovetsky, Volodymyr Panchenko, Oxana Pachlowska, Yevhen Sverstiuk, Bohdan Tykholoz, Volodymyr Boiko, Stanislav Kulchytsky, Ihor Siundiukov, Volodymyr Serhiichuk, Ihor Hyrych, and Petro Kraliuk.
“Subversive Literature” is, in fact, a thematic and ideological continuation of the series “Armor-Piercing Political Writing” published last year. We can say that the second series is a kind of reinforcement of the first series. And vice versa. In other words, to gain inner freedom you need to read them both. Because if read separately, it would mean that some of the chronic illnesses of the society might be omitted. Slavery is a complex disease.
Premiere of the “Subversive Literature” series will be held at Lviv Publisher’s Forum on September 13 at Potocki Palace (Hall of Mirrors). (Starts at 2 p.m.)
