Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty

French Topping the Soccer World

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

The French team took the World Cup after massacring the Brazilians (3:0), making the entire nation aware of its shared goal. President Jacques Chirac showed himself to be the soccer fan he really is when the ecstasy was palpable, something to be explained by more than his standing with his compatriots.

Following this soccer triumph, Paris retained its kudos as not only the capital of the soccer world but capital of world culture in general. In a word, the French found a reason for national rejoicing, a holiday for one and all.
