The Day has already reported that Klychko brothers promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl offered Axel Schultz DM 3,000,000 for a European Champion fight against Vitaly Klychko. Schultz and his promoter Sauerland refused, arguing they have an agreement to fight Mike Tyson. But how will Axel fight Tyson, if he won his last fight with 220 world rated Richard Mason on points (Mason was the first to knock down Schultz during his professional career)?
The refusal did not stop Kohl, now he is offering Schultz DM 5,700,000 for the fight appealing: “Schultz, give Germany this fight.” Even half of the offered sum would be enough for Schultz, considering that this is the biggest offer he was ever made.
In truth, Schultz is not worth the money offered. All boxing experts are unanimous in viewing his last fight as a total failure. Max Schmelling, President of German affiliate of Coca-Cola and ex-world champion, declared: “Schultz is a likable guy, but he needs some time for recovery. The fight against Vitaly Klychko should take place. As the professional boxer, Axel should go out into the ring with any opponent. He should not run away.”
After the fight on August 23 both Klychko brothers were invited to a press conference. But the Schultz team tried to keep them away from the press. Security officers did not let the Klychkos enter the hall saying: “We have an order not to let you in.” Now even the most patriotic Germans, devoted to the German boxing legend Axel Schultz have more and more sympathy with Vitaly Klychko, who never loses his temper and retains his confidence. By now no one is amazed that Schultz rejected the DM 5,700,000 offer.
