Klychko Kayos American in 67 seconds

24 November, 1998 - 00:00

Overseas mass media had praised the American boxer to the skies, claiming
he would stop Volodymyr Klychko. However, already in the first round of
the regular rating fight the Kyiv boxer left his opponent little chance.

The quickness of the fight was not a surprise to the German audience,
after both athletes appeared in the ring: the powerful, slim, and confident
two meter Ukrainian giant and American hardly standing 185 cm, wearing
a troubled look. Wingfield disappointed his fans by going, first down,
then out already in the first round.

Currently Volodymyr Klychko ranks fifth in the WBC ratings and is first
in Europe. The two famous boxing observers Ton Turner and Ken Norton were
amazed by what they saw. "Volodymyr is definitely beyond all praise," Norton
had to admit. Back during his boxing career, Norton knocked out Mohammed
Ali in 1973. "He is tall, knows how to use distance and possesses a knockout
punch. After the Klychko brothers acquire more experience from fights,
they will be able to beat any boxer," Turner concluded.
