So you don't have anything against playing golf? The way, for example,
they show it in old films about merry old England. We can tell you straight
that not long in ago this was very problematic in Kyiv. But then in the
middle of the Hydropark next to the Mlyn (Mill) Restaurant a miniature
golf course appeared, meeting all the rules and standards. As Hennady Drobyshevsky,
Chairman of the Board of the newly created Golf Federation of Ukraine,
told The Day, this is only a first step. The next is to acquire
the land for a full-sized course. Partaking of its charms will not be cheap,
for maintaining it will cost between $500,000 and $1 million a year.
This is explained by the fact that it is mainly the affluent who play
golf: embassy employees, businessmen, and politicians. Incidentally, as
Mr. Drobyshevsky emphasized, the federation plans to open Ukraine's first
facility to offer diplomas in mastering the irons and woods, a department
specializing in golf at the Kyiv University of Physical Culture and Sports.
And so that the federation can get down to the work of playing golf on
a real course, the work on it is slated for completion in only one month.
