Negligence, the Mother of Defeat?

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

In the first game of Intertoto Cup Vorskla of Poltava, Ukraine lost to an average club, Leiftur of Iceland, 0:1. However, Icelanders turned out painstaking but inattentive. In the 53rd minute they substituted 14th number Steinar Ingimundasson for some player wearing the number 16. But there was a problem the player with that number was not checked in for the game. This was the violation of UEFA regulations. Vorskla protested the result of the game and UEFA adopted the decision:

a) To annul the result of the game and to announce Vorskla of Poltava the winner of the game with three goals against zero, and

b) To fine Icelandic club Leitfur 7000 francs.

Vorskla played the home game on Saturday and demolished its Icelandic opponents by scoring five goals to zero and passed to the second round, reports Petro Marusenko, The Day
