Where there is no law, but every man does what is right in his own eyes, there is the least of real liberty

News in Brief

19 January, 1999 - 00:00

Kyiv native Ihor Parkhomenko has been proclaimed Europe's best archer due
to 1998 competitions, while Lina Pavchuk from Chernivtsi ranked third in
the list of Artemises. The Day's correspondent asked Ivan Saika,
President of the Ukrainian Federation of Archery, to comment.

"What has happened is no surprise. Ihor indeed hit the bull's eye, so
to speak, last season. Although he only finished third at the championship
of Europe, he then became an indisputable winner of three Grand Prix in
Turkey, Germany, and the Czech Republic, the most prestigious competitions
in our sport. As for Lina, this Chernivtsi University student went a long
way to this success, having won silver medals in the team event at Olympic
Games and world championships. Ukrainians do know how to draw a bow. Suffice
it to say that our Robin Hoods broke 119 records last season at various-level
competitions.
