Two Ukrainian Teams in League

of Champions!

Ukrainian soccer players have advanced to thirteenth place. Representatives
of our country have never gone so high, especially if we take into account
that Kyiv's achievements of the late 1980s had been credited to Russia.

Now, even with the worst result of the spring matches Ukraine will not
fall below fourteenth. This means two Ukrainian teams will take part in
the 2000-2001 League of Champions. The Champion will begin competition
in the third qualifying round and the silver medal winner will begin in
the second.

Unfortunately, the UEFA decided to keep the last season's team quota
for the 1999-2000 League of Champions. This, to be honest, controversial
decision means that Ukraine, which was ranked seventeenth, will be able
to send only one club to the League.

Incidentally, the initial bracketing will consist of 32 teams - eight
groups with four teams in each. Two winners advance to the next round,
while the third teams will move to the UEFA Cup Tournament. And only the
worst ones will drop out of race.

The Cup of Cups Tournament will be abolished and 121 teams will participate
in the renewed UEFA Cup Tournament, including 96 in the main tree.

The teams which place second and third in the championship and the Ukraine
Cup Holder will play in this tournament.
