Chess

The Ukrainian men's national chess team demolished Tadjikistan by scoring
4:0 in the first round of the Olympic chess games, which began in Elist.
Ivanchyk, Malaniuk, Savchenko and Ponomariov managed to defeat their opponents,
bringing victory to Ukraine. The women's team, however, lost one point
to the Switzerland. Natalka Zhukova was surprisingly defeated by ex-fellow
Ukrainian Tetiana Lemachko. Tetiana Vasylevych and Olena Sedina managed
to win, bringing the score to 2:1.

Wrestling

The World Cup match between club teams was held in Chicago, USA, where
Ukraine's free style wrestling team defeated the U.S. by scoring 35:28.
The return match will take place in Kyiv on October 10 at the Palace of
Sports.

Tae Kwan Dol

The junior Olympic tournament of Tae Kwan Do WTF was held in Turkey.
15-year-old Oleksandr Shaposhnik of Kharkiv, Ukraine won the silver medal,
after losing the final fight to a Korean athlete. The secondary sports
school student competed in the 51 kilogram weight category.
