Biathlon

The third world championship in summer biathlon ended in small Slovak town Brezno. It was the first time the Ukrainian national team participated in a tournament, where a cross country event replaced the ski race. Nina Lemesh garnered two silver medals in 4 and 6 kilometer races. And the male team came in second in the summary of relay race 4x6 kilometers. In the overall summary the Ukrainian team came in second after a Russian team backed by a great deal of experience.

Boxing

The Fifteenth Felix Stamm Memorial Tournament has ended in Warsaw, Poland. Over 80 boxers from 10 countries took part. Andriy Kotelnyk of Ukraine won the gold medal in lightweight. Andrei Kozlovsky and Denis Inkin (both of Russia) became tournament champions.

Basketball

Odesa's BIPA-Moda-SKA defeated Hans Ferkerk Kekens of Holland 64:58 in the H Group of Saporta Cup tournament prelims. Hennady Uspensky (scored 25 points) and Vadim Putsurey (16 points and 13 steals) were the best in the host team. Shakhtar of Donetsk convincingly won against Azot of Rustavi, Georgia (110:87, 93:92- home and road games accordingly) in the Korach Cup. Azovbasket of Mariupol lost to the Belarus's Grodno-93 scoring only 60 points against 79, but managed to advance to the next round of Korach Cup by winning the home game with a 25 point difference. Female Dynamo of Kyiv lost the home game to Rybnyk of Poland 67:72 in the Lilian Ronketti Cup, but managed to demolish its opponents in the road game by scoring 86 points against 59. Energobasket of Donetsk tied the home game with Hapoelem of Israel 63:63, but because of its victory in the road game, 72:64, continues in cup competition.
