Kyiv native Olena Tatarkova took second in the doubles division in the Los Angeles international tournament with prizes totaling $450,000. Together with Tamarin Tanasugarn of Thailand, she bested Romanian Irina Spirlea and American Chanda Rubin 6:4, 6:2. However, in the finals they lost to Martina Hingis of Switzerland and Lindsay Davenport 4:6, 2:6.
