Only an armed journalist is dangerous to journalists

10 March, 00:00
Not far outside Brovary near Kyiv the Ukrainian Guild of Mass Media Editors in Chief held their traditional February rally. The sharks of pen and camera met at the Sapsan International Sports Target Club and was called the 1998 Accurate Pen. The tournament began with 21 teams of four contestants each, among them Biznes, Zerkalo nedeli, Ukraina moloda, Demokratychna Ukraina, and Fakty i kommentarii newspapers along with the ORT, UTN, Vikna, and Kyiv television companies as well as the Interfax and DINAU information agencies.

Each team was to shoot in three types of shooting: in a tour with the pistol, from foxholes, and with World War II vintage machine guns used by the Partisans. The program was very reminiscent of a good journalist’s work. Starting with a battle at close quarters, then shooting at a target farther away, and finally on to guerrilla warfare. Individuals finishing first, second, and third were Vitaly Krutiy (Praktik-TV), Valery Krey (Yeva), and Volodymyr Chekalin (Uriadovy kurier). Teams were led by Posrednik and Vseukrainskie vedomosti.
