"Of course we expected our world champion and Goodwill Games Silver medalist Zhanna Pintusevych to win," said senior track and field coach of the State Sports Committee Leonid Smielash. "She prepared for these races and wanted to win”. Although she ran the 100 meters at her best time in this season (10.92 seconds), she did not make it into the top three. The race winner Christina Arron of France set the new European record with 10:73 sec., Irina Privalova of Russia came in second with her best time this season - 10:83 sec., and Greek Ekaterine Tanu was third with 10:87 sec, setting a new national record. Experts predicted new records to be set in this race, because European sprinters are the best in the world. Thus, Pintusevych did her best but that was not enough.
