The 1998 World Cup competition began with a sensation. The famous four man crew of Great Britain with Stephen Redgrave came in fourth at the first stage of the tournament in Munich. His quartet won its last 12 last races in a row, and the Olympic champion has not lost a single race out of 74 since May 1992. Note, Ukrainians came in second — the female pair of Dina Mifatkhutdinova and Olena Rozhnina along with the male quartet led by Leonid Shaposhnykov.
