Andriy Medvediev from Kyiv won second place in the Swedish Open in Bostad and took the prize fund of $340,000. On his way to the finals he defeated German Bernd Karbacher – 6:2, 6:1; Australian Richard Fromberg – 6:7 (5:7), 6:3, 7:6 (7:2); Andrea Gaudentzi from Italy 6:3, 6:4; Dominik Hrbaty from Slovakia 6:3, 7:6 (7:2). In the final game our athlete was defeated by Magnus Gustaffsson from Sweden who even had tag number one – 2:6, 3:6. For Medvediev, whose world ranking is somewhere around 90, this success is a big step forward. Incidentally, he was included on the list of the main players only by making a beforehand request, but the organizers had no regrets whatever.
