Ukraine and Poland to prepare Euro-2012 volunteer workers together

14 April, 00:00

Activists from youth movements in Ukraine and Poland discussed the preparation of volunteers for the Euro-2012 within the framework of the program of the corporation Ukrainian-Polish Center of Academic Exchange together with State Service of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, UNIAN reports. “Together with our colleagues from the corporation Ukrainian-Polish Center of Academic Exchange we have been working on a project to give our youth an education in Europe and preparing volunteers for the Euro-2012 (since June 2010),” Ravil Safiullin, head of the State Service of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, noted. “Hundreds of Ukrainian students received an opportunity to study at Polish higher education institutions, especially in the Opole University. The feedback, as far as I know, is very positive. Our youth, the future volunteers, is studying in Opole. They major in humanitarian logistics, where they are taught about psychology, social work, medicine and so on. They learn the basis of successful volunteer work.”

In turn Oleksii Moskalenko, head of the Ukrainian-Polish Center of Academic Exchange, noted that in April the set of excursions for all Ukrainian volunteers that want to study in Poland has began. One group went to Lodz, Chorzow, Katowice, and Opole, and learned about the conditions for studying in Polish universities. The Ukrainian-Polish Center of Academic Exchange is preparing summer courses for Ukrainian youth at higher education institutions in Poland.

According to Mykola Vorobiov, coordinator of the All-Ukrainian Center of Volunteers 2012, Ukraine will need over 13,000 volunteers for the Euro-2012. The largest volunteer project in the country took place in 2006 within the framework of Lviv’s 750th anniversary celebrations. A total of 700 volunteers participated in it.
