UKRAINIAN SOCCER CUP FINAL WILL ENHANCE KYIV DAY

13 November, 2012 - 00:00

Ukrainian Soccer Cup semifinal return matches were played last Thursday. Dynamo Kyiv engaged Kryvbas of Kryvy Rih (winning the first game, 4:2) and Metallurh of Donetsk tied a game with Kyiv Army Club (1:1).

The final match will be played May 31, marking Kyiv Day (Olympic Sports Complex, 17.00). Kyiv Dynamo (no one doubts the team will be there) will meet with either Kyiv Army Club or Donetsk Metallurh led by Volodymyr Onyshchenko, also from Kyiv. The unquestioned favorite, Kyiv Dynamo should prepare well, for at this stage anything can happen.

The Ukrainian Cup is one of the most prestigious trophies in Ukrainian soccer (all previous final games were attended by the top political leadership).

The tournament is held under the auspices of the Ukrainian Soccer Federation, with all arrangements being the prerogative of USF’s exclusive agent, the Ukraine Soccer International joint venture.

The Day called USF President Oleh Shkreba for a brief interview.

Q: What arrangements have been made for the final meet?

A: An advertising agency has been commissioned to prepare the tickets, attractive posters, and programs. The entrances will be lined by banners and streamers. Tickets will be available around May 20.

Q: How much will they cost?

A: The fans won’t complain, I think. Between three and five hryvnias. Incidentally, block bookings will be accepted. As usual, every ticket will be sold along with a pocket calendar with a photo of the Ukrainian National team. The first three buyers will each be awarded each a color appointment desk calendar with photos showing the most exciting episodes in the National’s performance.

Q: Will there be anything else at the stadium besides the game?

A: The audience is in for many pleasant surprises. All I can say now is that there will be a lottery with one or two super-prizes and scarves with the National’s and USF motto “We Play for Ukraine.”

Q: Will the final game be televised?

A: Yes, we think so. We are negotiating live coverage with two companies, UT-1 and STB.

Q: And the final question. How many people do you expect in the audience?

A: At least 30,000. By the way, only the lower tier will be available.
