Vinnytsia becomes more handicapped-friendly

31 August, 00:00

The city of Vinnytsia has recently furnished its public transport stops with signs for people with disabilities. The bright yellow signs are two meters in length, and placed above curbs in the place where public transport vehicles are supposed to stop; their purpose is to facilitate the lives of people with disabilities who also use municipal transport. The sidewalk next to the signs will be marked with a “man on a wheelchair” symbol of at least one meter in size. The program “The city of Vinnytsia, convenient for everyone,” began with all curbs near traffic lights being painted yellow, and then covered all public transportation stops in the same color. All drivers of the utility enterprise “Vinnytsia tram and trolleybus authorities” received instructions on how they should stop the bus, trolleybus, or tram at the marked locations, so as to help people with visual or other impairments. It is a long awaited step towards Europe.
