Vitaly Klychko Beats “Invincible” In Round Three

12 October, 00:00

Germany was astir with boxing emotions again Saturday. Vitaly Klychko, the current idol of German and Ukrainian fans, had to defend his WBO professional world champion's title in a bout with US Ed Mahone.

Known as the “invincible” (like Vitaly, Ed had never lost a fight), the American told anybody who would listen before the bout that he would win again. Actually, the names of those he beat never made headlines, and the American himself was not that much of a celebrity. Yet he claimed the WBO title. As for Vitaly Klychko, he was his old self, working over his adversary from the outset. Mahone soon began to betray nervousness. In round two he was floored but saved by the bell. At the beginning of round three he was again knocked down, and before it was over Klychko was announced the winner.

Vitaly's defense of the world title was confident and almost everybody could predict his victory from the meet's beginning. Once again the German audience saw that the brothers Klychko were really invincible. New encounters lie ahead. Although no one knows when either of the brothers will next face a representative of the world boxing elite, their regular victories are convincing proof that the brothers are past their “medium” phase. We all look forward to the day when they will meet Holyfield, Louis, and Mike Tyson, when their royalties will be in the millions, when they become household names the world over. Their time has come.
