Will Dynamo Let Viktor Leonenko Go to Russia?

08 February, 00:00
Kyiv Dynamo forward Viktor Leonenko, Ukraine’s best soccer player in 1992-1994, has recently returned home from Moscow where he was seen in the training camp of Samara’s Krylia Sovietov (Wings of the Soviets, what a name! —Ed.).

“Viktor, is it true that you may spend the new season with the Samara club?”

“Yes. In any case, I am preparing to fly together with Krylia Sovietov for the next preseason training session. I have only to check with the team administrator about when and where I should go.”

“Has the transfer problem been settled?”

“I can’t answer this question because in fact I don’t know anything. But I want to play and am prepared for this transfer.”

“Have you received the necessary agreement in Kyiv?”

“If Dynamo had not entered into negotiations with Krylia Sovietov, there would be no point for us to discuss it now. Sorry, but I can’t say anything else.”

“Then would you tell us at least about what you’ve been doing lately?”

“Training.”

“Who with, if this is not a secret?”

“With my friends, with every one I could meet. I also did a little work in Moscow”

For more details of Leonenko’s further career, we turned to Yevhen KOTELNYKOV , chief of the soccer department at Kyiv Dynamo.

“Is Leonenko leaving for Samara?”

“It looks like it. Krylia Sovietov requested Dynamo to let him go to them. Naturally, our club’s management had no objections, for they want to prolong the career of this outstanding soccer player. In addition, Dynamo has long been trying to find a decent application for Leonenko’s talent.”

“Is it going to be a sale or a lease?”

“While we are talking, the point is that Dynamo does not object to Viktor going for a training session with the Samara players. Further actions depend to a large extent on the Russian club.”

“And what kickback will be offered for Leonenko?”

“The question is not only in money. I say again: our club is ready to help the player find a new team. Of course, any free-of-charge transfer of such a player is out of the question. However, we cannot guarantee that Leonenko will suit Krylia Sovietov: don’t forget how long he’s been idle. This is why I say that the problem should be solved in a package. We’ve got to wait a little. Just a day or two.”
