The White Hall of the National Museum of Russian Art welcomed Ukrainian painters, representatives of local authorities, and sponsors from various regions of Ukraine at the launch of the album-cum-catalog Kyiv Museum of Russian Art produced by the Atlant UMC publishing house. The album presents the history of the museum and its unique collection and was authored by Yurii Vakulenko, director of the museum, Yurii Kotelnikov, CEO of the publishing house, and Svitlana Zorina, head of the Kyiv Chief Directorate for Culture and Arts.

The museum was founded in 1922 as the Kyiv Art Gallery and by now has accumulated the largest national collection of paintings, graphics, sculptural works, as well as glass and china items, all produced by Russian artists. The museum grew out of the private collections of the Tereshchenkos and Khanenkos. On display are the works by Dmitry Levitzky, Vladimir Borovikovski, Ivan Shyshkin, Ilya Repin, Alexandr Ivanov, Viktor Vasnetsov, Nikolai Rerich, Nikolai Ge, Vasily Tropinin, Vasily Polenov, Mikhail Nesterov, as well as the oeuvres of the Itinerants (Peredvizhniki), modernists, symbolists, and social realism painters.

The publication of this edition was made possible through donations from sponsors (about a dozen businessmen from all over Ukraine). Vakulenko is sure that the crisis always revives spirituality, so he hopes that this is a great season for patrons of art.
