Truskavets has celebrated City Day at full blast. Residents and guests of this resort, who took part in the celebrations, had an opportunity to find an event that caters to even the most fastidious tastes – all kinds of master classes, competitions, model performances, concerts, and charitable actions. The most attractive item was the public initiative “Let Us Clean Up Ukraine, beginning with Truskavets. Gift the City a Tree!” Incidentally, the organizers of this undertaking set themselves a goal two months ago to make the native town green and full of flowers, and Truskavets residents actively endorsed this idea. Philanthropists would not only buy tree saplings at their own expense, but also plant them by themselves. For instance, Yurii Drohobych Boulevard was adorned with a magnolia lane and the pedestrian Taras Shevchenko St. with larches, ball-shaped fir trees, arborvitaes, and marigolds.

Public activists were sure that Truskavets would receive generous gifts on its birthday – and they were not mistaken. About 50 donators bought tree saplings worth almost 16,000 hryvnias, gifted them to Truskavets, and planted with the help of volunteers. It is gratifying that not only Truskavets residents expressed their love of the native town in this way – a lot of vacationers from Kherson, Kyiv, and Dnipropetrovsk also participated in the event.

Another gift to Truskavets residents was the visit of the newspaper Den. The place in front of the newspaper’s tent was crowded and noisy – many people wanted to take a closer look at the publication and acquire some Den’s Library books. Kateryna Vasylivna from Kyiv, a regular Den reader who came with her grandson Mykhailyk, was sincerely glad to have an opportunity to communicate with her favorite publication during her vacation. Kateryna bought the book Power of the Soft Sign and said that what had aroused her special interest were Den’s articles on the history of Ukrainian cities.

Iryna Demchur from Truskavets has been reading Den for three years. Her daughter also reads it because she is a subscriber. “It is a very serious newspaper,” Iryna said. “I trust it. I like reading the news on pages 2-4 and articles in the sections ‘History and I’ and ‘Ukraine Incognita.’ When I discovered it for myself, I stopped buying other newspapers. Den is No.1.”

It is important that, while presenting itself in Truskavets, Den held a campaign, “Present a Gift to the School You Went to.” One of those who responded was entrepreneur Serhii Rozora who presented High School No.2 with a set of Den’s history books. High School No.1 was also given a gift, and all the schools in the town subscribed to Den. As almost 50 Truskavets residents have subscribed to our publication, we hope that the communication between Den and Truskavets will further strengthen and develop.
